Browns reportedly fear that Landry suffered a sprained MCL, which could keep him out of the lineup for several weeks.

The Cleveland Browns lost wide receiver Jarvis Landry after just two plays of their win over the Houston Texans on Sunday.

Now the team might be without Landry for a few weeks as they reportedly are concerned that Landry suffered a sprained MCL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Landry was injured on Cleveland’s second offensive play of the game when he was tackled after making a nine-yard reception. He went to the sidelines before heading to the locker room and was ruled out of the game in the third quarter.

Landry will undergo and MRI on Monday and if it turns out that he does have a sprained MCL, he could be out for a while. Running back Nick Chubb suffered the same injury last season and missed four games.

Every player is different, of course, but that timetable would keep Landry off the field until the October 21 game against the Denver Broncos.

Losing Landry so early had an impact on the energy of the team, Chubb told Nate Ulrich of The Beacon Journal:

“It was tough. After [Landry] went down, it took us a while to get going. I felt the energy kind of drop a little bit because Jarvis, he’s a big part of our offense, he brings energy and intensity and he makes big plays.”

With Landry out, the wide receivers did not exactly cover themselves in glory. Rashard Higgins had two receptions (on two targets) for 27 yards, Donovan Peoples-Jones had just one catch for 14 yards and turned the ball over on a fumble after that catch, and Anthony Schwartz posted the Brian Robiskie zero catches for zero yards stat line while also cutting his route short, which led to an interception.

Mayfield made good use of the tight ends, however, as Harrison Bryant (four catches for 49 yards), Austin Hooper (five receptions for 40 yards) and David Njoku (two receptions for 18 yards) all had respectable games.

Running back Demetric Felton, who should be in line to take on a bigger role as a slot receiver in Landry’s absence, also had two receptions for 51 yards, including a 33-yard touchdown reception on a screen pass in the third quarter.
