Cleveland Browns:

• The Browns position battles I’m watching when training camp kicks off (cleveland.com) – It’s not a spot many people are talking about, in part because there will be opportunities for John Johnson III, Ronnie Harrison Jr. and Grant Delpit to each share the field. Even when they aren’t, it’s likely there will be a rotation of the three. While Johnson is likely to play most, if not all, of the team’s defensive snaps, who will be alongside the majority of the time?
• A bolt straight down Electric Avenue, and nine other ways this shapes up as a Browns camp like no other (Beacon Journal) – Bill Cowher, who was on the payroll the last time the Browns got good, is on the bandwagon now. Cowher either played or coached for six Browns teams that reached the playoffs in the 1980s. Starting in 1990, the Browns managed a winning season only in 1994, 2002, 2007 and 2020. Now, Cowher is a serious face on a crowded and amusing bandwagon.
• Top Potential NFL Trade Packages, Landing Spots for Dolphins CB Xavien Howard (Bleacher Report) – The Miami Dolphins probably prefer to keep Xavien Howard out of the AFC as they attempt to make the playoffs for the first time under Flores’ direction. As such, the Browns aren’t the optimal trade partner. However, Cleveland presents a unique opportunity based on what it did this offseason.
• Nick Chubb gets a lot out of a little on his runs (Browns Wire) – Not only does Nick Chubb put up raw numbers, but he has done so in spite of expectations per play.

NFL:

• Saints DT David Onyemata to be suspended for six games, NFL announces (The Times-Picayune) – New Orleans Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata will be suspended without pay for the first six games of the upcoming season, the NFL announced Friday. His suspension stems from testing positive for a banned substance, Onyemata announced on Instagram before the suspension was official.
• Richard Sherman pleads not guilty to five misdemeanors, states he’s ‘deeply remorseful for my actions’ (NFL.com) – Richard Sherman, a 10-season NFL veteran, was charged with five misdemeanors by the King County (Wash.) Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Friday, and the free-agent cornerback also released a statement expressing his remorse for the incident earlier this week.
• Inside Spencer Brown’s journey from eight-man football to the Buffalo Bills (ESPN) – Lenox, Iowa, isn’t quite the midway point between Des Moines, Iowa, and Omaha, Nebraska. It’s simultaneously on the way and out of the way; venturing off Interstate 80 to stop in the small town of 1,400 people adds about an hour and change onto what is normally a two-hour drive. But Northern Iowa coach Mark Farley was making good time on his recruiting trip from Des Moines to Omaha and figured he could spare the hour to check out the 6-foot-6 kid he had heard about in Lenox.
• Ted Ginn Jr. retires from NFL after 14 seasons (WBNS) – Ohio native and former Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. announced he is retiring from football. Ginn made the announcement Friday. The 36-year-old spoke with reporters at COhatch Ohio City, and while he said the decision was “very tough,” he is happy to go out “on my terms.”
