Former Browns inducted into National High School HoF

Quarterback Tim Couch and wide receiver Dave Logan are among 12 athletes honored in Class of 2021.

Former Cleveland Browns players Dave Logan and Tim Couch were inducted into the National Federation of State High School Associations High School of Fame on Thursday as part of the Class of 2021.

The National High School Hall of Fame was founded in 1982 by the National Federation of State High School Associations to honor high school athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and others.

A third-round selection by the Browns in the 1976 NFL Draft after being a two-sport star at the University of Colorado, Logan played eight of his nine NFL seasons with the Browns. He became a full-time starter in 1978 and was a key member of the Kardiac Kids offense that was one of the league’s most entertaining under head coach Sam Rutigliano.

Logan is ninth on the franchise’s all-time list in receiving yards with 4,247, 16th in receptions with 262, and 11th in touchdown receptions with 24.

He played his final NFL season with the Denver Broncos in 1984. Following his retirement, he eventually joined Denver’s on-air radio voice, a role he holds to this day.

In addition to his radio duties, Logan has been a successful high school football coach, winning nine Colorado state titles and 290 games over a 28-year career. This past season he led Cherry Creek High School to an undefeated season and its second consecutive Class 5A state title.

Logan was inducted into the high school hall of fame for the “impact he has made over his wide-ranging career in the world of sports,” according to chsaanow.com:

“The idea of working with kids was ingrained in me when I was very young. Even when my dad was coaching me, he talked about how, ‘You’re going to grow up and eventually, if you get the opportunity, you give back.’

“But I think what we need to be able to recognize, and too often we don’t do this, is the importance and the impact that high school coaches, teachers and administrators – those who deal with our youth – have on young people. And even though it might not seem like it every single day, and I know I leave practice some days thinking, ‘I’m not sure they hear a word I said today,’ they do.

The Browns selected Couch with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft. In five seasons with the Browns he helped the team reach the playoffs in 2002, and is fifth on the franchise’s all-time list in passing yards with 11,131, eighth in touchdown passes with 64, and fourth in completions with 1,025.

While he was never able to live up to being the first pick in the draft due to numerous injuries, time has shown that Couch is the second-best quarterback the Browns have had since returning to the NFL in 1999.

Couch was inducted into the high school hall of fame for his career at Leslie County High School in Kentucky, where he set national career passing records for completions (872), yards (12,104) and touchdowns (133), and was named the state’s Mr. Football in 1995.

He encouraged others to dream big during a press conference prior to the induction ceremony, according to wymt.com:

“I would say follow your dreams. You know I think a lot of people thought I was crazy when I wanted to be an NFL player coming from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky but you know you have to think big you have to believe in yourself you have to think that you can compete with the kids around the state and with around the country and my biggest message to them would be to believe in yourself it doesn’t matter where you’re from it matters to work that you put in And how much you believe in yourself.”
