The Colts are hosting cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers on an official pre-draft visit, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC-TV in Houston. Stiggers was the CFL’s 2023 Most Outstanding Rookie.

The 22-year-old Stiggers would be in rarefied air if drafted, not having played college football. He signed with the Toronto Argonauts last season after playing in the Fan Controlled Football League. During the college all-star season, Stiggers did play in the East-West Shrine Game.

Stiggers was not invited to the NFL combine but did test at his pro day. He measured in at just under 6 feet and weighs 204 pounds. He posted an impressive Relative Athletic Score of 9.31, which included a 4.45-second 40-yard dash.

As part of his rookie season in the CFL, Stiggers recorded 53 tackles and came away with five interceptions.

For a closer look at Stiggers’ game, here is a snippet of what Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network wrote in his pre-draft report:

“Stiggers is most comfortable in zone and off-man, where he’s able to pedal and sink in phase, monitor routes with his eyes, and key in on QB intent. He has searing closing speed once he hits his trigger, and his ability to win positioning, play the ball, and force incompletions is truly special.”

Cornerback is the Colts’ biggest positional need entering the 2024 NFL draft.  This is a unit that ranked in the bottom third of the NFL last season in pass breakups and yards per pass attempt allowed. In general, the defense as a whole gave up way too many explosive pass plays.

Although Stiggers likely doesn’t start early on in his career, adding him to the Colts’ cornerback room would help boost the overall depth of that unit. Cummings adds that he sees Stiggers as an early-to-middle Day 3 selection.
