What could a mock draft look like if the Indianapolis Colts were to trade down in the first round? Well, I wanted to find out.

More than likely, the Colts probably stay put at pick 15. However, there are a few factors in play that could entice GM Chris Ballard to move down.

The first and most important determining factor is, of course, who is available. If Ballard feels there are several options for viable draft picks still on the board, then trading down could make sense. This was the scenario that I ran into during my mock draft using the PFF simulator. When on the clock, still on the board were Nate Wiggins, Brian Thomas Jr., Cooper DeJean, Brock Bowers, and Laiatu Latu, among others.

On the flip side, not on the board at that time were Terrion Arnold nor Quinyon Mitchell, two players I was hoping to land and absolutely would have taken with pick 15. So, with those two plus the top receivers gone, along with there being several options available that would help satisfy positions of need for the Colts, I felt comfortable trading down.

Also in play in this decision-making process is that the Colts come into the draft with only seven total draft picks and rank 21st in draft capital value. There are only four teams with fewer draft picks than the Colts. While this isn’t the main driver when it comes to trading down, the opportunity to collect an additional top 100 selection was enticing.

Now, let’s dive in. Here is how that mock draft scenario played out.
