2021 will feature five different inter-conference games across the NFL.

The addition of a 17th game on the NFL calendar meant there would be all sorts of imbalance across every team’s schedule. For the extra game itself, the league decided to add an inter-conference game, putting all NFC teams on the road in 2021. This change feels weird for now, but with time it will probably seem more normal.

For the Detroit Lions, the added contest brings a road trip to Denver. Should the Broncos somehow land Aaron Rodgers, this would be quite the event. Otherwise, there is not too much notable about this game aside from the chance for some snow mid-December in Colorado. However, the rest of the inter-conference slate is pretty intriguing.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

Which AFC matchup is most exciting for the Lions?

My answer: Like the NFC North, the AFC North is full of tradition and rivalries. While the two divisions do not necessarily have any animosity between them, the geographic and demographic similarities between many of the teams and cities makes for some natural excitement.

The game that is most interesting to me is the pre-Thanksgiving visit to Cleveland. The Browns are clearly on the rise and somewhat represent what the Lions want to become. The Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals all roster plenty of great players in their own right, but there is something about the Browns that just feels like a natural fit.

Your turn.
