All-Pro pass rusher Chandler Jones is unhappy with his contract.

In breaking news fashion, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported via his Twitter account that Chandler Jones requested a trade from the Arizona Cardinals. Here is a quote from the original tweet.

Jones has been unhappy with his contact and future with the team.

Obviously, General Manager Steve Kiem and head coach Kliff Kingsbury have no intentions of trading Jones. Fowler states the team expects Jones to report to camp. Since 2012, Jones leads the NFL with 97 sacks. He is one of the best and most productive pass rushers in the league.

This is a situation worth monitoring as we approach training camp in a few days. Should the Cardinals pay top dollar to Jones coming off a biceps injury? Most of us would answer yes. The team could have reservations about their 31-year-old defender.

If Jones decides to attend camp, it would be of high priority to sit down and potentially find common ground on a deal. Jones does not come across as a disruptive player that will cause issues in the locker room. Like most players, he wants his money and to feel wanted for the long haul.

What happens if he refuses to play for the team with one year left on his deal? The team could trade him or call his bluff. Is there a potential deal that will provide the value of losing Chandler Jones? That remains to be seen.

Jones’ ability to pressure the quarterback is evident, but pairing him with J.J. Watt could benefit this developing secondary. Since joining the Cardinals, he has proven to be worth the money and some.

Hopefully, the two sides can come to an agreement and secure a deal that pleases Jones without drying out the financial well of sorts.
