Time to analyze the Philadelphia Eagles’ snap counts from their Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

OFFENSE

• With Lane Johnson unexpectedly out, the Eagles had the following OL configuration:

Left tackle — Andre Dillard
Left guard — Landon Dickerson
Center — Jason Kelce
Right guard — Nate Herbig
Right tackle — Jack Driscoll

The unit held up relatively well given reasonable expectations. And they made it through the entire game without further incident, which is important moving forward.

• DeVonta Smith’s playing time has been in the 90% range the past two games after being in the 80s in each of the first two weeks. Smith set career marks in targets (10), receptions (7), yards (122), and yards per reception (17.4). Granted, he was facing an awful Chiefs pass defense, but he took advantage of the matchup. The Eagles should continue to heavily lean on their first-round pick.
• Dallas Goedert caught all five of his targets for 56 yards and one touchdown. He had another score that was wiped out by one of Dillard’s four penalties.
• Jalen Reagor’s playing time dipped to a season-low. He saw just one target and it came when the Eagles were down 19 points on their final drive in garbage time. Not so great to have last year’s first-round pick be a non-factor like this. But not totally shocking given how he would often disappear during 11-on-11 drills in training camp. On the positive side, Reagor did have a 12-yard run and a 44-yard kick return.
• Miles Sanders played the fourth most snaps of any skill player but only had one more offensive touch than Kenny Gainwell, who played 18 fewer snaps. Curious.
• Quez Watkins saw a decrease in playing after three straight weeks with an increase. He did get banged up at one point, so that could’ve factored in. Watkins did see an increase in targets with seven. His previous career high was five and that came in Week 17 of last season. His previous high this year came when he was targeted three straight times to open the game in Week 1. Against the Chiefs, Watkins only had three receptions for 33 yards, but he should still get more targets/snaps than Reagor.
• Zach Ertz saw one more target than Goedert despite playing 18 fewer snaps. Ertz’s 60 yards were a season-high on a season-low snap percentage.
• Kenny Gainwell set career marks in snaps played, targets, receptions, and receiving yards. His nine touches went for 89 yards whereas Sanders’ 10 touches only went for 47.
• Greg Ward caught a garbage time touchdown for the second week in a row.
• JJAW continues to get playing time as a blocking WR. He hasn’t seen a target since Week 7 of last year.
• Speaking of extra blockers, Jack Stoll continues to contribute in a limited role.

DEFENSE

• Rodney McLeod seemed to be on a pitch count in his first game since last December. The Eagles rotated Marcus Epps in on the back end at times.
• Fletcher Cox played a nice amount of snaps but failed to log a single stat in this game. He’s up to just one sack and quarterback hit in his last eight games. That’s just not good enough from the team’s highest-paid player.
• Josh Sweat hit a season-high in terms of snap percentage.
• Javon Hargrave continues to be a force even though he’s not even playing the entire game.
• Milton Williams logged a season-low in terms of snap percentage.
• Ryan Kerrigan has yet to log a stat in 121 snaps played this season. He did draw a penalty against KC. But he’s mostly been invisible out there.
• Genard Avery’s role was bigger in the first two games and has since decreased.
• Davion Taylor saw a limited role upon returning from his calf injury.
• Shaun Bradley saw some (limited) defensive playing time for the first time since Week 1.

SPECIAL TEAMS

• Weekly observation: Andre Chachere was a great pickup for the special teams unit.
• Josiah Scott only played on special teams in his Eagles debut.
• Patrick Johnson didn’t play a defensive snap for the first time all season. Bit of a curious development after his defensive snap counts increased from 10% to 19% to 37% over the first three games.
• Neither team punted in this game. Arryn Siposs’s playing time was limited to being the holder.
• Not pictured in the screenshot: Brett Toth and Sua Opeta each had seven ST snaps.

DID NOT PLAY

INACTIVE: Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, Gardner Minshew, Mac McCain, Marlon Tuipulotu

ACTIVE: Joe Flacco, Jack Anderson

• Sirianni didn’t offer any details on why Johnson surprisingly missed the game. The Eagles’ official comment is that it was a “personal matter.”
• With the Eagles not putting Mailata on IR, one would think he’ll be back in either Week 5 or Week 6.
• Anderson was active for his first game with the Eagles since being signed from the Bills’ practice squad. No snaps for him, though. Just a “break glass in case of emergency” option due to the offensive line absences.
