Playing time breakdown.

The official snap counts from the Philadelphia Eagles’ preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers are in. Let’s take a look.

OFFENSE

  • The Eagles gave Brett Toth, who is currently the backup left tackle behind Jordan Mailata with Andre Dillard injured, a long look at left tackle.
  • Sua Opeta got the start at left guard in place of Isaac Seumalo. Jack Driscoll came in to play right guard after Brandon Brooks came out of the game (not due to injury) after the Eagles’ first drive.
  • J.J. Arcega-Whiteside was playing late into the game. Maybe not the best sign for his roster chances?
  • Very efficient showing for Quez Watkins. Had Jalen Hurts not missed him deep, he could’ve conceivably had two catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns in just 14 snaps played. Think about that!
  • The Eagles handled Jordan Mailata properly. No reason to pretend like he hasn’t already earned the left tackle job and needs to prove more. He’s the starter; get him out of the game when the other starters come out.
  • Jordan Howard was in the game early and didn’t play much. Seems like the Eagles plan on keeping him around.

DEFENSE

  • The Eagles gave Shaun Bradley a long look and he didn’t seem to fare so well based on how the Steelers moved the ball with ease. Then again, it’s not like he got much help from his defensive line. They couldn’t keep him clean and he got stuck on some blocks.
  • Lots of playing time for Tarron Jackson. Eagles giving him a chance to show if he belongs on the roster. I think he’ll make it.
  • Interesting to see Marcus Epps play so much despite currently being the starting safety next to Anthony Harris with Rodney McLeod on active/PUP and K’Von Wallace out. The Eagles are running low on safeties, so that’s part of it, but you would think they might be more cautious if they were really relying on him to have a big role.
  • Neither Raequan Williams nor Marlon Tuipulotu showed like they belong on the roster after getting dominated by the Steelers’ third string offensive line.
  • Eric Wilson is clearly LB1 right now based on how the Eagles got him out of the game with the rest of the starters.
  • Unlike the offense, the starters only saw one series. Derek Barnett officially got the start over Josh Sweat, which was a little interesting, but not necessarily super meaningful. They’re likely to rotate and split playing time.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • No surprise but Elijah Holyfield is definitely not in a good position to stick around. Not even getting any offensive snaps.
