New York could be without a pair of key players on Sunday

The New York Giants could be without star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, their best defensive player, Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Lawrence will miss a third straight day of practice on Friday, and head coach Brian Daboll told media at Quest Diagnostics that Lawrence, who has 4.0 sacks and leads the Giants with 17 quarterback hits, will be listed as doubtful for Sunday. The 26-year-old Lawrence was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time last season.

“I always want to be available. I always want to be the one to help my team get a chance to win. So, that’s what I’m fighting to do. Just see how I feel leading up to the game,” Lawrence said on Friday. “Honestly, I’ve been getting better. Even just after the day it happened, at first it was real tight, and just throughout the week I’ve been rehabbing, recovering, and it’s been loosening up, so I’ve been feeling good.”

The Giants could also be without wide receiver Darius Slayton, who has a neck injury. Slayton practiced on a limited basis and will also be doubtful. Slayton left Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders with what appeared to be a right arm injury. He clarified that it is actually a neck injury that causes issues don into his arm. He was limited in practice on Thursday.

Slayton is third on the Giants in receptions this season with 30. He averages 14.0 yards per catch.

“We’ll take both those guys right up to game time,” Daboll said.

Daboll also said that right tackle Evan Neal (ankle) will miss his third consecutive game.
