Happy Birthday to us!

Yes, it’s that time of year once again

We have reached the appropriate date on the calendar for our little corner of the internet to celebrate once again.

Yes, it was on this date. . .and at right around this time. . .fifteen years ago that yours truly penned the first post on what would eventually become the best site on the internet for Minnesota Vikings coverage. I mean, it still is, in my humble opinion, but it took a while for it to get there.

Honestly, I can’t believe that I’ve been doing this for fifteen years now. According to the counts in the archives section, there have been 21,641 stories posted on our little corner on the internet here (including this one) over the past fifteen years. That’s a whole lot of coverage of your Minnesota Vikings.

There are so many people that have been a part of this website over the years. If you’re one of the people that has made contributions to the site as a writer or a moderator over the years, I can’t thank you enough for making this site what it is today. This team hasn’t always been successful, but we’ve provided enough to build a pretty solid community that, for the most part, has been together for a pretty long time.

For those of you that have made this site a regular part of your internet experience over the years, a tremendous thank you goes out to you as well. You’re the ones that really keep this site going, because with nobody reading or commenting, websites tend to disappear. This site, despite the ups and downs of our favorite football team, has had a really steady presence in the landscape of Vikings’ football throughout its existence, and that’s because of you folks.

I’ll be the first to admit that things have slowed down a bit in recent months, and a lot of the responsibility for that falls onto me. There have been a lot of real-life things going on for yours truly, not the least of which has been attempting to finish off my Master’s degree (something that I’m about six weeks away from doing) and getting ready for the end of my current “day job” with the Air Force, as I’m now a little more than ten months away from taking off the uniform for good. This means that I might need to figure out what I want to be when I grow up.

If I want to, that is. As the old saying goes, growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.

However, with a lot of the commitments I’ve had recently soon to be in the rearview mirror, I’m going to make every effort to get even more out there for you folks as we get closer to the season and throughout what, hopefully, will be a great 2021 season for our favorite football team. Eric and Warren will continue making their contributions to the site here as well, and the moderating crew will continue to ensure that it all runs smoothly. We’ve got Training Camp coming up here shortly, so we’re nearly through the dry spell of the offseason. When the football gets going again, however, you’re going to see significantly more out of DN.

But, I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge us hitting this milestone. When this site launched 15 years ago, I had no idea that I’d still be here doing it after all this time. I’m grateful to the folks from SB Nation/Vox Media that have placed their faith in me for all this time and allowed this site to become a leader in the Minnesota Vikings community on the internet.
