Jaguars still projected to take WR, TE in midseason mock draft

The Jacksonville Jaguars bolstered their 2023 wide receiver corps at the trade deadline by acquiring currently suspended wide receiver Calvin Ridley from the Atlanta Falcons. But is that enough to revamp an offense that is currently lacking a big play threat at receiver?

Luke Easterling of Draft Wire doesn’t think so. In his midseason mock draft, the Jaguars are projected to pick TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

It’s the same player Easterling paired with the Jaguars a month ago, although the team was picking 14th in the draft order at that point. After going winless in October, the Jaguars are now eighth in the draft day lineup.

Johnston is a 6’4, 215-pound receiver who has put up gaudy numbers in the Horned Frogs offense. As a freshman in 2020, Johnston averaged 22.1 yards per reception and he earned First Team All-Big-12 honors last year as a sophomore. Through nine games this season, Johnston has 42 receptions for 650 yards with four touchdowns.

In the second round of Easterling’s mock, the Jaguars are projected to take Georgia tight end Darnell Washington. The team’s current trio of tight ends — Evan Engram, Dan Arnold, and Chris Manhertz — are all slated to become free agents after the 2022 season.
