The Texans have one player on a top ten list.

There is no denying Laremy Tunsil’s talent. He’s one of the five best pass blockers in the NFL. He ensures that players like Yannick Ngakoue or Bud Dupree or Josh Allen will come in and ruin your entire day. Of course, he needs to be more of a bully in the run game, and his talent needs to match his performance in that facet of his game. But if you are looking for a pure one v. one pass protector, Tunsil is one of the best around.

ESPN recently ranked the ten best players at each position. The Texans had one player find one list, and that’s Laremy Tunsil, who landed at number three.

3. Laremy Tunsil, Houston Texans

Highest ranking: 2 | Lowest ranking: 9

Age: 26 | Last year’s ranking: 2

One of the league’s most gifted linemen, Tunsil might be the lone star out of Houston to crack a top-10 list at any position. He is a true anchor who can win with power or quick feet, winning 89.7% of his pass-block snaps in 2020.

“He’s more explosive and athletic — he’s not devastating with ferocity like Trent Williams,” said an NFC offensive coach. “But he’s got that gear that most don’t where when he wants to dominate, he can.”

Pro Football Focus calls Tunsil a “middling run-blocker,” but coaches still consider him a threat in that area, at least when he wants to be.

Is Tunsil worth two first round picks and a second round pick? No. Did Tunsil fleece the Texans with his contract extension? Yes. Is a left tackle that important? No. Should Houston have restructured his contract this offseason? No. All of these things are true, but none of this takes away from Tunsil’s talent and performance.
