Carolina Panthers fan and country music superstar Luke Combs is now mad online and off of it.
On Monday, the Asheville, N.C. native saw his team give away yet another one of their top players—trading off two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns to the New York Giants for a pretty underwhelming return. Combs then went viral for expressing his frustration over the move with the following tweet:
.@Panthers WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!? No first round pick for McCaffrey a few years back and now none for Burns?!?! Are we just fire bombing the whole team here or what? I usually don’t comment on these kinds of things but it’s just becoming slow torture at this point.

Well, there was more frustration to be expressed this afternoon.
Combs joined Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, where he was asked about his thoughts on the franchise’s current direction. The “Fast Car” singer proceeded to run over his squad, starting with head coach Dave Canales.
“Obviously, I don’t know Dave at all,” he said. “I’m sure he’s an awesome guy. But I don’t get the hype behind hiring the offensive coordinator for the 20th-best offense in the league. Like, what are we talkin’ about here? There’s 20 other guys that are doin’ better . . . ”
Canales was hired as the team’s head coach after one season of calling plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Under Canales, the NFC South champions ranked 18th in passing yards per game, 32nd in rushing yards per game and 23rd in total offense.
Combs then swerved right into owner David Tepper.
“It hasn’t happened yet, for sure,” he said when asked about Tepper’s ability to steer the Panthers into the right direction. “He’s obviously a shrewd businessman. But I’m a great musician, and I’m not a football coach. That’s just the way it is. I’m great at doin’ music, but I ain’t at the combine tellin’ you who to draft. It ain’t happenin’. You can be good at one thing, don’t mean you’re good at something else. And throwin’ drinks on the fans in Jacksonville ain’t a hot look.”
He continued.
“It’s kinda like, it feels like we’re the worst franchise in all of professional sports right now. It’s really hard to deal with that.”
But before he left, Combs made sure to straighten out his allegiance.
“I will go down with the ship of the Panthers,” he stated. “I’m in. All this frustration, all the quips that I’ve said here on air is all said out of absolute diehard passion and love. I will never be a fan of another team. I will never go anywhere else. If we’re the worst team on the entire planet forever, then so be it. I’m in. Because I’m just that loyal of a cat.”
If he’ll go down with this ship, then maybe Combs has his next hit cover song lined up. Is Dido available?
