Matt Judon discusses move to Patriots, ‘getting in sync’ during training camp

Matt Judon appeared Monday on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.”

The transition from the Baltimore Ravens to the New England Patriots continues for Matt Judon.

The same goes for the moving, as the 28-year-old outside linebacker discussed Monday on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” alongside hosts Nate Burleson, Kay Adams, Tom Pelissero and Kyle Brandt.

“Well, I’m going to have to use maps to get everywhere I’m going,” Judon said from his home in Baltimore. “I don’t even really know where a grocery store is out there. Actually, the movers are downstairs packing stuff up right now. So, it’s just re-getting set up in a new house, relearning the area, putting my kids in schools out there. And then when it comes to work, it’s learning the playbook first and foremost. You really can’t do nothing if you don’t know the playbook on the field.”

On the field, Judon has registered 249 tackles, 35.5 sacks and eight forced fumbles since arriving in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft. The Grand Valley State product appeared in 80 games and made 52 starts with the Ravens, including playoffs.

His tenure brought consecutive Pro Bowl selections before departing for the Patriots in March on a four-year, $54 million contract.

“And then,” Judon added, “getting in sync with your teammates. That comes through just repetitions, which you kind of get in the offseason but you really get during training camp and when you all start going to war.”

The first practice of training camp on the Gillette Stadium backfields is set for July 28.

Asked about his confidence level entering head coach Bill Belichick’s defense, and helping it return to its 2019 form, Judon’s remains high.

“I stay confident, just from where I come from and what I’ve been through and the preparation that I know I take every day and every game,” Judon said. “So, I have no choice but to be confident in myself. I think that when you play confident and you have confidence in yourself, it shows on the field and it shows in your play. And you can go out there and make those plays. And then I think it’s arguably the best coach to ever coach any sport, and that’s what we have. And so, with him leading a group of hungry, willing men, it’s nothing but up from last year.

“So, we’re going to put it together in a week. We’re going to start putting it together in a week, and then we’re going to see where the chips lay.”
