Whether or not you agree with the Atlanta Falcons’ decision to take quarterback Michael Penix with the No. 8 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, it’s clear the team had a plan and stuck to it. However, many around the league are skeptical of the selection because the team just signed QB Kirk Cousins to a four-year deal in free agency.
The initial shock of Atlanta taking another quarterback has somewhat overshadowed just how talented of a player Penix is. The former Washington standout passed for over 9,500 yards and 67 total touchdowns over the last two seasons combined, but NFL analysts had trouble wrapping their heads around the pick simply due to Cousins’ contract.
