The Miami Dolphins hold the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Who was picked with that selection over the last 10 years?

The Miami Dolphins head into Thursday’s 2024 NFL Draft first round with the 21st overall pick. The Dolphins have kept their options open, creating the opportunity for the team to simply take the best player available on their draft board. The various mock drafts from around the web show a crazy spectrum of picks from both a player and a position perspective for Miami.

While we wait to see what the Dolphins will do with the 21st pick, we can look back at its recent history. Below, you will find the last 10 selections made at 21, including last year, when the Dolphins should have been the team making the selection if not for a punishment meted out by the NFL.

2023
Los Angeles Chargers: Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU

Interestingly, the Dolphins actually should have made the 21st pick, but, like the team’s third-round pick this year, the selection was forfeited as part of the NFL’s punishment of the club for tampering with Tom Brady and Sean Payton.

Johnston appeared in all 17 games for the Chargers, starting 10 of them. He caught 38 passes for 431 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie.

2022
Kansas City Chiefs: Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

The New England Patriots held the pick before the Chiefs jumped up to the position, sending the 29th, 94th, and 121st picks back to the Patriots.

McDuffie began his career as the Chiefs’ starting cornerback, but a Week 1 injury put him on injured reserve. He returned later in the season, starting 11 games in his first season. Last year, he started 16 games for Kansas City and earned a First-Team All-Pro selection. He has 124 tackles with four sacks, six forced fumbles, and 14 passes defensed in his career.

2021
Indianapolis Colts: Kwity Paye, DE, Michigan

In his three seasons with the Colts, Paye has started 43 games. He has 129 career tackles with 18.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and one pass defensed.

2020
Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU

Reagor spent two seasons with the Eagles before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2023 seventh-round pick and a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick. He was cut by the team at the end of the preseason, signing to the New England Patriots practice squad.

He re-signed to the Patriots after the 2023 season.

In four years, Reagor has appeared in 56 games, including 25 starts, with 79 receptions for 937 yards with four touchdowns. He has also returned 61 punts for an 8.0 yards per return average with one touchdown; he has 19 kick returns for an average of 25.1 yards with a touchdown.

2019
Green Bay Packers: Darnell Savage, S, Maryland

The Seattle Seahawks sent the 21st pick to the Packers for the 30th, 114th, and 118th picks.

Savage spent five years with the Packers, including having his fifth-year option picked up ahead of the 2023 season. He appeared in 72 games, starting 69 of them, primarily playing free safety but working as a strong safety last year. He has 302 career tackles with one sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, 32 passes defensed, and nine interceptions with one touchdown.

He signed a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars as a free agent this year.

2018
Cincinnati Bengals: Billy Price, C, Ohio State

The Buffalo Bills held the 21st pick but shipped it along with left tackle Cordy Glenn and the 158th pick to the Bengals in exchange for the 12th overall pick and a 2018 fifth-round pick.

Price began his career as the Bengals’ starting center but was limited to just 10 games played due to an injury. In 2019, Price worked at left guard for Cincinnati before returning to center for 2020, but losing his starting position. The Bengals declined the fifth-year option for Price before trading him at the end of the 2021 preseason to the New York Giants

In New York, Price started 15 games at center before his rookie contract expired, and he was allowed to hit the free agency market. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad during the 2022 season and then joined the Arizona Cardinals’ active roster, taking over the starting center position as injuries mounted to the offensive line.

In 2023, Price had an offseason stint with the New Orleans Saints before joining the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad for the year.

Since being selected, Price has appeared in 69 games with 45 starts. He is currently a free agent.

2017
Detroit Lions: Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida

Davis spent four years with the Lions, primarily starting at middle linebacker during his first three seasons, but seeing injuries cut into his playing time. He fell out of the starting lineup for much of the 2020 season, with the Lions declining his fifth-year option for the 2021 season.

After signing with the New York Jets in 2021, he appeared in nine games but again had an injured reserve stint to shorten his playing time. He returned to the Lions for the start of the 2022 season, beginning the year on the practice squad. Late in the year, he was signed by the New York Giants to their active roster. A knee injury sustained during the Giants’ offseason training program ended Davis’ 2023 seasons during training camp.

In six years played (not including the 2023 season), Davis appeared in 68 games, including 51 starts, with 344 career tackles, 11 sacks, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 10 passes defensed, and one interception.

2016
Houston Texans: Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame

The Washington Commanders traded back with the Texans, moving from 21st to 22nd and picking up a 2017 seventh-round draft choice.

Fuller spent five years with the Texans, who exercised the fifth-year option on the receiver. He became a free agent in 2021, signing with the Dolphins. He appeared in two games in 2021 for Miami before a broken thumb ended his season. He did not sign with a team after the season.

In six seasons, Fuller caught 213 passes for 3,136 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also returned 22 punts during his career, averaging 14.3 yards per return and recording one touchdown; he averaged 15.5 yards per return on two kick returns.

2015
Cincinnati Bengals: Cedric Ogbuehi, T, Texas A&M

Ogbuehi spent four seasons with the Bengals after being drafted, but the Bengals declined his fifth-year option, and he was allowed to hit free agency after injuries and coaching decisions limited him to just 35 games and 25 starts over the four seasons. He then moved to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2019 season before a year-and-a-half stint with the Seattle Seahawks. After being released during the 2021 season, Ogbuehi signed with the Baltimore Ravens, first on their practice squad and then on the active roster. He was again released during the season, with a brief stint on the Tennessee Titans practice squad near the end of the year.

In 2022, Ogbuehi began the year on the Houston Texans practice squad before the New York Jets signed him to their active roster. After an injured reserve stint late in the season, he re-signed with the Jets for 2023 but was released ahead of training camp. The Dolphins signed him a few days later, holding on to him through training camp and the preseason before releasing him as the preseason ended. He started 2023 on the Jets practice squad but was released during the season.

In his career, Ogbuehi appeared in 67 games with 35 starts.

2014
Green Bay Packers: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama

Clinton-Dix played seven years in the NFL before retiring in 2022. He spent four-and-a-half seasons with the Packers before being traded during the 2018 season to the Washington Commanders. He finished out the season with Washington before signing as a free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2019. In 2020, he signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys but was among the roster cuts at the end of the preseason. After sitting out the entire 2020 season, Clinton-Dix signed for 2021 with the San Francisco 49ers, but again was released at the end of the preseason. He joined the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad, appearing in two games before being released in December. He finished the season on the Denver Broncos practice squad.

Over his career, Clinton-Dix recorded 522 tackles, 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, 33 passes defensed, and 16 interceptions with one touchdown. He was a 2016 Pro Bowl selection and a Second-Team All-Pro.
