New England ends their season against New York.

The New England Patriots return to a snowy Foxboro to end their 2023-24 season against the New York Jets. While the Patriots will look to extend their 15-game win streak against their division rival on the field, most of the attention will be off the field as Bill Belichick and Matthew Slater may be taking the sideline as Patriots for a final time.

Additionally, Sunday’s game will finalize the Patriots draft status — with a win potentially bumping them back to pick No. 5 while a loss would keep them in play for pick No. 2.

Follow along with us live from Gillette Stadium.

Live Score: (4-12) Patriots 3 : 17 Jets (6-10)

First Quarter

The Jets won the coin toss and deferred, putting Bailey Zappe up first in a snowy finale. After starting on the ground with Ezekiel Elliott, Zappe’s second-down screen pass was nearly intercepted at the line of scrimmage. From the gun on third-and-eight, a pass downfield went off the fingertips of Elliott and fell incomplete leading to a punt.

Trevor Siemian opened up by taking a shot downfield to Garrett Wilson, but the pass fell incomplete. After a second-down run by Breece Hall, Siemian was then brought down on third-down leading to a punt.

New England took back over at their own 39-yard line where two screen passes set up a quick third-and-11 — in which Zappe was sacked.

The Jets stayed on the ground for their next possession with two straight runs to Hall to set up a third-and-eight. From the gun, Siemian’s pass downfield was in-and-out of the hands of Xavier Gipson.

A 59-yard punt by Thomas Morstead pinned the Patriots at their own three-yard line. New England kept it on the ground backed up with two consecutive carries for Kevin Harris. Then facing third-and-eight, Zappe’s pass to DeMario Douglas was nearly intercepted before falling to the turf.

The Jets following possession began at the New England 38-yard line after a short punt from Bryce Baringer. Two touches for Hall set up a third-and-one, where they went back to the back for the first first-down of the afternoon. Then set up with a third-and-five, Hall found the edge to move the chains yet again. A short throw to Tyler Conklin set the Jets up inside the five-yard line, where Siemian’s pass under pressure to the end zone fell incomplete. Greg Zuerlein’s 21-yard field goal was good. [Patriots 0 : 3 Jets]

A six-yard completion to DeVante Parker kickstarted New England’s next possession, before Zappe went right back to his wideout downfield which fell incomplete. On third-down, Bryce Huff quickly got home for a sack. Bryce Baringer’s 60-yard punt was then downed inside the Jets 20, which set a Patriots franchise record as his 37th punt inside the 20 on the season.

Second Quarter

A short run and incompletion set New York up with a third-and-eight, where Siemian missed an open Garrett Wilson instead firing an incompletion to Gipson.

New England started with their best play of the day as Ezekiel Elliott tallied a 13-yard run, but, a holding call on DeMario Douglas erased the gain. Then facing a third-and-three, Zappe lofted a pass downfield which was hauled in by Jalen Reagor — who was then flagged for delay of game after spiking the ball. A pair of Elliott runs then moved New England inside the red area before two Harris touches set up third-and-four. Zappe’s pass to Mike Gesicki in the end zone was nearly hauled in but broken up. Chad Ryland’s 30-yard field goal was good. [Patriots 3 : 3 Jets]

After a short run, the Jets finally hit an explosive play as Garrett Wilson beat Shaun Wade down the left sideline for a 29-yard completion. Just across midfield, consecutive handoffs to Hall each went for 12 yards. New York was then setup with a third-and-seven just outside the red area, where Siemian evaded pressure before firing an incompletion. Zuerlein’s 40-yard field goal was then good. [Patriots 3 : 6 Jets]

Back behind on the scoreboard, New England’s offense opened with two carries for Elliott to set up a third-and-six. From empty, Zappe broke out of a sack but his pass to Pharaoh Brown was incomplete.

The Jets picked up an opening first-down due to a run by Hall and short catch-and-run from Wilson. New York then got Conklin wide open on a slide route off a boot but the tight end only picked up nine yards in the snow. Hall then moved the chains before converting his next two carries into an additional first-down. Then set up with a third-and-nine, Siemian’s pass downfield was incomplete — with new Patriots’ cornerback Marco Wilson in coverage. Zuerlein came on the attempt a 49-yard field goal in the snow, which the veteran clanked off the left upright.

With 21 seconds in the half, Zappe got aggressive and looked for Reagor deep down the left sideline, but the receiver could not haul it in. After another deep incompletion to Parker, Zappe then handed it to Elliott on third-down. The Jets took a timeout left with four seconds to force New England to handle the ball in the conditions, where Zappe fired a deep completion out of bounds to enter halftime.

Third Quarter

New York opened the second half with two carries for Hall to set up a third-and-four. Siemian was able to buy time but no receiver could uncover down field forcing a throwaway and punt.

A 13-yard punt return by Myles Bryant started New England’s offense at their 33-yard line. Elliott then took his first carry for nine yards and then moved the chains with a six-yard pickup. A screen to the back then set up a third-and-eight where Zappe had nobody open before eventually being brought down for a sack.

Despite a neutral zone infraction by Anfernee Jennings to set the Jets up with a first-and-five, two runs only set New York up with a third-and-four. From the gun, Siemian’s pass was dropped by an open Wilson leading to a punt.

Back with the ball, Zappe’s opening pass was complete to Douglas for a 14-yard catch-and-run. After a short run and incompletion to Douglas, Zappe’s third-down pass back to the rookie was again incomplete.

Siemian’s first pass of the next drive was incomplete along the sideline to Wilson — but a hit by Jabrill Peppers to Wilson’s helmet was flagged for unnecessary roughness. Two runs by Hall then set up a third-and-one, which the QB kept on a sneak for a conversion. A high snap then led to a third-and-16 which a handoff to Hall led to a punt.

After a one-yard gain by Elliott, Zappe was then sacked on second-down to set up a third-and-14. The QB’s pass was incomplete towards the sideline forcing another punt.

Two runs from Hall set the Jets into a third-and-nine situation in which Siemian was under pressure from Ja’Whaun Bentley as his pass fell incomplete.

Fourth Quarter

New England dialed up the trickery to kick off their next drive with a reverse to Jalen Reagor who took it 17 yards. Then quickly set up with a third-and-nine, Zappe kept it himself for eight yards. Going for it on fourth-and-one from their own 45, a play-action pass to Pharaoh Brown was broken up by Ashtyn Davis.

Taking over across midfield after the turnover on downs, Hall took a first-down carry for eight yards and then moved the chains the following play. Two more touches for Hall — included a nice one handed snag out of the backfield — moved New York inside the red area. After Keion White broke up a screen to force a third-and-10, Siemian’s quick pass to Randall Cobb was short of the sticks. Zuerlein came on for a 32-yard field goal which split the uprights. [Patriots 3 : 9 Jets]

Now trailing by six with just over eight minutes remaining, a reverse to Douglas went for no gain but tempers flared as Pharaoh Brown’s block on Quincy Williams extended to the sideline. A screen to Brown then went for no gain before Zappe was sacked on third-down.

New York started their next possession at the New England 46-yard line where two runs for Hall set up a third-and-three. Another handoff to Hall was stopped a yard short of the sticks leading to a fourth-and-one — where they were stopped for a turnover.

Taking over at their own 40-yard line with 3:37 remaining, New England again dialed up some trickery with a reverse flea flicker which resulted in a 16-yard sack. Zappe then uncorked one downfield which was intercepted by Davis — who then lost the ball on the return and Vederian Lowe recovered. Two plays later, Zappe’s pass went through Reagor and was intercepted.

A three-yard run from Hall took the clock past the two minute. On his next carry, Hall took it 50 yards for the game clinching score. A two-point conversion was successful. [Patriots 3 : 17 Jets]
