In a post from last week, I discussed some of the players on the roster who were drafted in the last few drafts by our Miami Dolphins and have managed to stick around on the roster despite showing little, if anything, on the field. I then asked the following question-

Which player(s) do you need to see something more from this coming season than you have thus far if they are to remain on the 52-man roster? What players have you already given up on and hope to see just gone before the beginning of the season?

Below are some of your answers and thoughts on the subject-

daytonadolfan didn’t highlight any single players but some units on the team that need to seriously step up this coming season.

Evening and happy hump day! I say the whole offensive line and the defensive line! It wouldn’t hurt to improve the backfield coverage, too. We need serious aggression from our D.B.’S, L.B.’S and hard rushing, sack getting def. line!

MIAMI235 threw me for a loop as I have zero idea who Coach K is. Beyond that Miami235 hopes that Brooks continues to show something when he returns from injury and would like a more solid backup QB in town. I am so with you on the backup QB thing!!!

I would like to see some continued improvement from Coach K ….

And, RB Brooks to be the beast we hoped for!

Additionally, a confident 2nd String QB , we can depend on, no matter who we have or sign.

phinette wants improvement from the top down, it seems. Also, I assume that you are new to the site or at least commenting so welcome!

The O-line, Tua, Mike McDaniels and Chris Grier.

CoachWinger listed our head coach and several of our recent picks. I feel like some of these guys have already shown us something but Cam Smith sure the hell needs to step up this season.

Mike McDaniels

Devon Achane

Austin Jackson

Liam Eichenburg

Nik Needham

Cam Smith

At some point or another I have had a lot of faith in each of these guys, which was either rocked this season or never developed into tangible results. However, there is still a lot to look forward to with this group. I understand that O-Linemen take time to develop, that’s why I continue to hold onto some hope for Eich to still become a playable piece of our group. If Needham and Cam Smith can stay healthy and available, I think it is very likely one of them will see significant playing time at some point this season. I think Achane is going to be a stud, but we saw the #s Mostert put up last season too, things were cooking… And then there’s the boss… I love him, but I think we will know what we have by February of next year. If he is the guy at HC long term, then sign Tua to the extension. If not, we may have a new HC who wants a 1st round QB to build with. I think we have to let Tua play the season out.

finfanfromsiam is another one who thinks as I do about Smith.

Cam Smith……

sand_in_shoes is dead on about all three. Tindall needs to step up now or look for a new gig. Easy E is a mystery to me. He shows out in camp each year and then vanishes during the season and all we get from the team is coach speak.

Cam Smith, Channing Tindall, and Erik Ezukanma.

Any one of the three of these guys step it up and it answers some questions for us. If two of the three of them become quality NFL starter material we are golden. If all three of them knock it out of the park next season we are playing football deep into January and maybe into February.

Dolfanjoe says we will find out who the guys are at the end of this month.

Those that need to step up are not even on the team yet ! Whether they drop back and add more picks or stay where they are and go for two starters. These players the top four drafted need to come in and contribute. Offense and defense need help. After the draft we will target the second wave of free agency. This will be the after draft answer to the draft plan, B.P.A. or drafting for need. The first couple rounds are for helping you out now ! The rest are designed to help you out in the future. Free agency is there to fix what you screwed up on !

Yarganaught also has four of the usual suspects.

Cam Smith, Tindall, and Eich all are at the top of my list of players who either need to step up, or step out. At least Eichenberg has played, and perhaps keeping him at a single position for longer than 2 games would help him out. But the other two…

TheRoo1 wants to see McDaniel take the next step in his progression as a head coach.

McD

Plays need to come in sooner

Adjustments need to be made during the game, especially at halftime when they have a few minutes to communicate with players.

Passes behind the LOS need to be cut by half.

If something is working, (like the running game) ride that pony.

For those of you who pointed out players currently on the roster, the list was the usual suspects. It also seems as if many of you are beginning to become a bit impatient with our still newish “wonderboy” head coach and need to see him get better at some of the key areas of his job. Some of the criticisms of McDaniel for sure seem warranted given what we could all see with our own eyes over the last couple of seasons. Thank you once again to each and every one of you who took the time to answer the question of the day and give us your thoughts on the subject.
