Hey, it worked pretty well the first time

For the second year in a row, the Minnesota Vikings are asking fans to dress for whiteout conditions for a home game in Week 16.

The Vikings are calling for a “Winter Whiteout” for the second consecutive year for a game taking place on Christmas Eve when they host the Detroit Lions at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 16.

Last season, the Vikings went with a “whiteout” for their regular season game against the New York Giants. The team went with their white-on-white uniforms, the end zones were (mostly) painted in white with purple lettering, and the overwhelming majority of the fans at U.S. Bank Stadium wore their winter whites in support of the team. It appeared to have worked. . .the Vikings beat the Giants that day by a score of 27-24 on Greg Joseph’s franchise-record 61-yard field goal as time expired.

The Week 16 game will be the first time the Vikings play the Lions this year as they finish their scheduled with three consecutive games against the NFC North. After the Week 16 game at home, they’ll have their home finale against Green Bay before traveling to face the Lions again in Week 18. And, if the seedings in the NFC playoff race hold the way they currently are, the Vikings would have to face the Lions again in the Wild Card round. I don’t know if two NFL teams have ever faced each other three times in four weeks, but we might get an opportunity to find out.

But, if you’re planning on heading to U.S. Bank Stadium to see the Vikings take on the Lions before you have your Christmas dinner, make sure you’re dressed appropriately.
