What are the odds? Titans-Jets

The Titans have rebounded from an embarrassing week one performance against the Cardinals, and now sit comfortably at 2-1. Tennessee picked up a dramatic win in Seattle, and then took care of Indianapolis at home last week.

Now they get a date with perhaps the NFL’s worst team. The Titans will travel to New York this weekend to take on the Jets, who are 0-3. They’ve scored a grand total of six points over the last two weeks, fresh off of a shutout loss to the Broncos last Sunday.

This is a matchup of two teams heading in opposite directions, though the Vegas line didn’t exactly reflect that at the open. The Titans began the week at only -3.5 over the Jets, but that line has grown all the way to -6.5 today. The total sits at 44.5.

Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson has been the story to this point for the Jets — in a bad way. The No. 2 pick has thrown for 628 yards in three starts, tossing two touchdowns against seven picks so far. He’ll face an improved Titans defense this Sunday, as Tennessee tries to shut down Wilson’s top receiver — former Titan Corey Davis.

There is a little bit of drama on the Titans side though. Top receivers Julio Jones and A.J. Brown are dealing with hamstring injuries that could force both to miss Sunday’s game. Brown’s seems a touch more serious than Julio’s, and we’ve seen the Titans take a very cautious approach with Jones to this point. With the Jets on the schedule Sunday, it does seem like a safe bet to assume both miss this one.

That means an increased role for Nick Westbrook-Ikhene, Chester Rogers and Josh Reynolds. But let’s be real, the Titans are going to give Derrick Henry the ball until the Jets stop him. Will the Jets 14th ranked rushing defense be up to the task?
