Notes: Tracy Walker admires Jared Goff’s willingness to take constructive criticism

Walker calls his new starting quarterback an ‘amazing guy’ and a vocal leader.

Entering his fourth season, safety Tracy Walker is a young player who Detroit Lions fans have high hopes for in 2021. After a promising beginning making plays from a high alignment, Walker was pushed into uncomfortable spots on the field by the previous coaching staff. Now he is back to the assignments he feels best suited to under the new defensive staff, and is ready to destroy some kneecaps. On Friday morning, Walker joined the crew of NFL Network’s Good Morning Football for a six minute segment that was subsequently posted online.

In the interview, former Lions receiver Nate Burleson asked Walker about the up-downs to start training camp and changes in the general atmosphere in the locker room. Kyle Brandt said it looks like a lot of fun and then asked about the most memorable moment so far. To that, Walker said the coach joining in for the up-downs made a huge impression on the players.

Kay Adams asked about impressions of new quarterback Jared Goff and Mike Garafalo commented on the collective experience and playing accomplishments of the new Lions coaching staff. To cap the segment off, it came back around to Adams asking how becoming a new father has changed his perspective. • Speaking of safeties, the official team site’s Tim Twentyman wrote about Dean Marlowe and the competition in training camp at the position. The battle for the starting safety spots is one to watch over the next few weeks.

• Just like our Erik Schlitt predicted, Dan Campbell today said he envisioned using D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams as a 1-2 punch for the Lions like Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram/Latavius Murray were for the Saints (via Detroit Free Press’ Dave Birkett). Williams could take on an Ingram/Murray type role for the Lions (via MLive’s Ben Raven).
