According to an article from the New York Times, the New York Jets’ quarterback is a finalist to serve as a vice-presidential nominee

Dread it, run from it. Destiny arrives all the same.

This quote from Thanos was meant to tell the Avengers that he was “inevitable,” above all others. Yet, this quote can also be related to the New York Jets and their ability to attract controversy.

According to a report from the New York Times, presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has approached current Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers about being his running mate for the upcoming presidential election.

Rodgers has reportedly “welcomed the overtures,” and Kennedy has confirmed that he had been speaking with Rodgers “pretty continuously” for the past month.

Rodgers’s entry into politics would be the most significant wrench in the Jets’ offseason.

Questions surrounding the team, such as if Rodgers would retire or split his time campaigning and playing football, would be endless. It would also ignite the media attention surrounding the Jets to a level beyond what it was in 2023.

At the end of the day, though, nobody knows what will happen with this situation. I have no idea, as I am a football writer and not a political pundit or expert. There are countless possibilities for what this situation could turn into.

One thing is for sure, though. The Jets and controversy are like a moth and a flame. They can try to avoid it the best they can, but they seem to have a subconscious desire to keep going toward it.

It is impossible to speculate what Rodgers’ VP situation will ultimately evolve into, but it has ultimately provided the Jets with arguably the craziest story possible to put them back into the limelight.
