(This article has been updated to include the signing of David Long Jr. which took place shortly after publication.)

The Panthers front office is busy throughout the season with transactions and roster moves. Here is the lone transaction that took place this week.

11/02 – Signed CB Mark Milton to the practice squad

The 6-foot-2, 191-pound corner is an undrafted rookie free agent from Baylor which by default makes some Panthers fans suspicious that former coach Matt Rhule had played a part in this signing. Milton had a solid five-year run at Baylor where he appeared in 51 games with 69 tackles and one interception.

Milton participated with the Panthers throughout the 2023 preseason and appeared in all three preseason games. In the preseason he recorded three tackles against the Jets, one tackle against the Giants, and three more tackles against the Lions. He was one of many victims of final roster cuts this year and it’s promising the team saw enough from him to bring him back on the practice squad.

11/03 – Claimed CB David Long Jr. off waivers (Updated)

This could be a helpful addition for the Panthers secondary. Long was waived yesterday by the Las Vegas Raiders and claimed by Carolina today. The five-year veteran spent his first four season with the Los Angeles Rams before joining the Raiders this past offseason. He has started 11 of 60 career games with 89 tackles, eight passes defended, and one interception. While he won’t transform the Panthers secondary, he has enough experience to provide depth at a position of need.

Other player updates

Since it was a light week on the transactions front, here are a few nuggets from other recent Panthers transactions:

  • Last week tackle Brett Toth and linebacker Luiji Vilain were signed to the 53-man roster but neither player was active against the Houston Texans last Sunday.
  • In Week 7 safety Matthias Farley was elevated to the active roster. Against the Texans he played 11 special teams snaps with two tackles.
  • In Week 6 cornerback Dicaprio Bootle was signed to the active roster. He appeared in 15 special teams snaps last Sunday and recorded one tackle.
