The always-controversial wide receiver is about to hit the waiver wire

The Cleveland Browns are releasing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. That means the one-time New York Giants superstar will be available on waivers. So, let’s cut to the chase. Do you want the Giants to claim Beckham?

Here is the statement from the Browns regarding Beckham’s release:

“After careful consideration, internal discussions and conversations with Odell and his representation, we’ve determined that it is in the best interest of all parties involved that Odell no longer play for the Cleveland Browns,” general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement. “We appreciate all his efforts and contributions while in Cleveland, but we’ve just reached a point where it is best that we move forward as a team without Odell. We are finalizing the process of granting Odell his release and we wish him well as he continues his career.”

The Giants are sixth in waiver wire priority, which is based on current record. That is the same spot in which they would draft if the 2022 NFL Draft were held today.

Any team claiming Beckham would have to take on the remaining 2½ years of the five-year, $90-million extension he originally signed with the Giants in 2018.

Beckham, of course, had his best seasons with the Giants. He caught 91, 96 and 101 passes his first three seasons with the Giants. He has not been the same player since a 2017 fractured ankle.

The Giants traded Beckham to the Browns after the 2018 season.

In 2020, he played only seven games and caught 23 passes. This season, he has 17 catches in six games.

Without going through Beckham’s entire history, this is now two organizations that have grown tired of dealing with the player.

Do you want the Giants to try again? Vote in the poll.
