The Broncos continue to bolster their defensive line by signing veteran Angelo Blackson to a one-year deal.

According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos have signed veteran defensive lineman Angelo Blackson to a one-year deal.

Blackson, a former fourth-round pick back in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans has bounced around the league a bit which includes a stint with the Arizona Cardinals where he played for Vance Joseph. During his career, Blackson has played for the Titans, Patriots, Texans, Cardinals, Bears, Ravens, and most recently, with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Now, he will join the Denver Broncos and help bolster their defensive line.

The 6-4, 318-pound veteran defensive lineman who is entering his 10th year in the NFL has played in a total of 128 games which includes 42 career starts. In those 128 games, Blackson has totaled 179 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, and 27 quarterback hits. This past season for the Jaguars, he totaled 13 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss in 11 games.

The Broncos defensive line struggled last season and was one of the worst units in the entire league against the run. So, changes needed to be made and so far, they have made some minor changes to that unit. They have added Malcolm Roach, Rashard Lawerence, and now Angelo Blackson to their defensive line while letting Jonathan Harris leave via free agency to the Dolphins. They have also opted against re-signing veteran Mike Purcell up until this point as well.

I would not rule out the Broncos continuing to add to this unit via the draft and likely with a couple of undrafted free-agent additions. Their depth here is not great so adding these veterans along with some rookies should help this unit improve, at least by a little bit, this upcoming season.
