The Jacksonville Jaguars believe quarterback Trevor Lawrence avoided a major injury Sunday when he twisted his knee on a fourth quarter sack, but will wait to see the results of an MRI to make an official determination, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Lawrence, 24, said after the game that his knee was feeling “pretty good” and he wasn’t too concerned about it. He also said in a postgame interview on CBS that it “should be OK.”

According to Rapoport, the Jaguars are hopeful that Lawrence is OK to play on Thursday against the New Orleans Saints.

Lawrence suffered the injury late in a 37-20 win when he rolled into pressure on a third down play deep in Indianapolis Colts territory. The decision to call a pass play at all was somewhat baffling considering the Jaguars were well within range for Brandon McManus to push the team’s lead to three scores.

“Look, is there a little bit of risk there to run your quarterback? Yes,” Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said after the game. “But at the same time, the reward is you get the first down, and you stay on the field and ice the game in those situations. Definitely wouldn’t change the scenario or the situation. We can coach that a little bit better and ask him maybe to go down a little bit sooner.”

Lawrence hasn’t missed a game in his NFL career. He finished the Week 6 win with 181 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.
