The Chicago Bears have a big-time decision on their hands. They can either draft a rookie, likely Caleb Williams, with the No. 1 pick and trade Justin Fields or they can keep Fields in the mix while moving the top selection for another huge haul.

This is the type of move that will define general manager Ryan Poles’ tenure in Chicago. If he hits on it, he could be the GM for a decade. If it is the wrong decision, he won’t be the guy in that chair for longer than a year.

There have been rumors about Williams not wanting to play in Chicago, and Poles was asked about it during his Tuesday press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine.

“No, no, no concerns about that at all,” Poles said. “I would love to know why, if that was the case. As a young quarterback, and I’ve been around it, the infrastructure is important, and we’ve made really good progress in terms of having really good infrastructure for whoever were to come in — or if Justin [Fields] were to stay here as well.”

The situation is a lot less fluid than it was a year ago when it was very clear that Poles was keeping Fields and moving the No. 1 selection. Now, everybody seems to have a different opinion on that. Regardless, it is good to know that Poles is confident that Williams would be interested in Chicago if he were to be selected with the top pick.
