The Carolina Panthers could be looking to keep it local early on in the 2024 NFL draft.

Joe Person of The Athletic recently profiled University of South Carolina standout Xavier Legette, one of the many intriguing wide receiver prospects of this year’s loaded class. Legette, per Person, revealed that he met with the Panthers twice at the Senior Bowl, which took place nearly a month ago in Mobile, Ala.

A Mullins, S.C. native, Legette spent the last five years reeling in the pigskin for the hometown Gamecocks. From 2019 to 2023, he recorded 113 catches for 1,678 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-1, 223-pounder also displayed the prowess he possesses when the ball is in his hands, having fielded 25 kickoff returns at an average of 26.2 yards per attempt over the past two seasons. Fellow University of South Carolina product and former Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn compared Legette to another Gamecock—San Francisco 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel.

“When they get the ball in their hands, they’re like running backs. They’re hard to bring down,” Munnerlyn said, via Person. “As a defender, as a corner, it’s tough to tackle guys like that because you can’t arm tackle. You’ve really got to wrap those guys up and try to take them to the ground. Because if you just throw your body in there, they bounce off and they keep going.”

Legette will obviously be a name to keep an eye on this week at the combine in Indianapolis.
