For the second straight year, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt has been selected as the AFC Defensive Player of the year but the 101 Awards. This is in addition to Watt being named the PFWA Defensive Player of the Year this week as well.

The 101 Awards get its name from the 101 media members who vote every year on offensive and defensive players of the year as well as coach of the year for each conference.

Here is more on the 101 Awards from their site:

Beginning in 2008, the 101 added the Lamar Hunt Award for Professional Football to honor the life and legacy of the late owner of the Kansas City Chiefs. This award is now the concluding presentation at the 101 awards gala each year.

The reputation and prestige of the 101 Awards is widely recognized throughout the NFL. From the coaches and players who are honored each year, to team owners and league executives who lead the NFL business affairs, the 101 is regarded as the nation’s best football awards event of its kind.

Watt tied the single-season sack record in 2021 and led the league in multiple defensive statistical categories. This honor, along with the PFWA award are great but the big one comes when the Associated Press announced its awards at the NFL Honors on February 10.
