Statistically, 2023 has been a tough season for Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett. Pickett is near the bottom in passing yards and passing touchdowns with 1,490 and six respectively.

The upside of Pickett’s lack of production is that his struggles are not due to turnovers. Pro Football Focus graded out every NFL quarterback on their turnover-worthy play rate. This extends well beyond just turnovers and takes into consideration plays that perhaps should have been turnovers but didn’t end up that way.

Pickett only has a 2.4 percent turnover-worth play rate which is seventh-best in the NFL this season.

What this means from a quarterback’s perspective is that when Pickett misses on a throw, he misses so badly it couldn’t even be intercepted. There’s no denying that when Pickett is off, he is way off. This has been the story of the first three quarters of nearly every game, Pickett finds a way to pull it all together in the fourth quarterback and starts making plays.
