Ross and Anna doing the family name proud this week
A great musician once said, “…today was a good day.” A sentiment Ross Cockrell and his sister Anna can certainly understand after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back got to share in a great family moment with his team, and then went out and dominated on the practice field himself.
Early Monday Cockrell and other members of the Bucs organization gathered to watch as Anna Cockrell earned herself a spot in the finals of the women’s 400-meter hurdles at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Cockrell promptly went out onto the practice field though and got himself three interceptions on the day. In the grand scheme of things maybe three practice interceptions aren’t as impressive as reaching the medal race in an Olympic track and field event, but it’s still an impressive feat.
And the Tampa Bay defensive back was beaming with pride when speaking about the accomplishment he and his teammates and coaches witnessed together.

On today’s episode of the Locked On Bucs Podcast though, James Yarcho took it one step further in analysis and really honed in on Cockrell’s appreciation of his Buccaneers family being there with him to cheer on his sister a continent away.
The watch party could seem to some as such minute detail and a small part of the experience, but it meant something to Cockrell himself, and to his sister as well as she watched them watching her, later on.

As Cockrell gets set to take her talents to the final race, we know the Buccaneers will be fully supporting her, although they won’t be able to hold another watch party as head coach Bruce Arians cited the race takes place after curfew on Friday night.
Her brother will be watching, as will some of his teammates, as they stay in the hotel preparing for their first preseason contest against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday.
