Welcome to the Mike White show?

Tonight’s edition of Thursday Night Football features a 3-5 Indianapolis Colts team hosting the 2-6 New York Jets, who are coming off a surprising 34–31 victory over the Bengals.

The Jets’ usual starting quarterback, second overall pick Zach Wilson, was injured in Week 7 and unable to play in Week 8, paving the way for Mike White to take his place. It took three and a half years and time on two different franchises before White made his first NFL official start, but boy it was a fun one. White went 37 of 45 passes for 405 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. White was named the AFC offensive player of the week and his jersey went off the Pro Football Hall of Fame as he set a record for completions by a QB in their first start, and was only the second QB since 1950 to throw for over 400 yards in their first start.

Meanwhile, the Colts QB, Carson Wentz, is coming off a rough outing last Sunday, losing to the Titans 34-31 in overtime. Wentz had been playing decent of late but he came back down to earth in this game.

Both defenses are similar in where they are successful (stopping the run) and where they are weak (defending the pass). So, look for the Jets to continue to ride the hot arm of White and hope he can lead them to another win, while the Colts will be hoping Wentz can get some of his magic back.
