Updates ahead of the Eagles-Raiders game

Roster and injury news.

Some news emerged on Saturday regarding the Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. An overview:

• Eagles S Anthony Harris and OG Jack Anderson were downgraded to OUT.
• Raiders TE Darren Waller and DT Quinton Jefferson were downgraded to QUESTIONABLE.
• Eagles S Elijah Riley and TE Richard Rodgers were temporarily elevated from the practice squad to the roster.

Let’s sort through this on a player-by-player basis.

ANTHONY HARRIS

Harris was ruled questionable on Friday’s injury report. The veteran safety seemingly tweaked his groin during the team’s final practice in addition to dealing with injuries to each of his hands. Harris ranks third (only behind Steve Nelson and Darius Slay) in defensive snaps played this year at 98%. It’s not like Harris has been a super impactful defender for Philly but his absence isn’t ideal. Especially as the Eagles go up against a more aggressive Derek Carr who will look to take shots down the field.

JACK ANDERSON

Anderson tweaked his hamstring in Friday’s practice and was ruled questionable. He likely would’ve been a healthy scratch anyway.

DARREN WALLER

Waller rested on Wednesday before being full go on Thursday. But then he was limited on Friday. It would be a big break for the Eagles if Waller doesn’t play. He’s arguably the best tight end in the NFL and he leads the Raiders in targets, receptions, and touchdowns.

QUINTON JEFFERSON

Jefferson missed the entire week of practice due to personal reasons. Rich Bissacia described it as a “family problem.” Seems like those issues might prevent the Raiders’ starting defensive tackle from playing. Jefferson is tied for third on Las Vegas in sacks. Their defensive line takes a hit if he can’t play.

ELIJAH RILEY

The Eagles have used a practice squad protection on Riley every week so far this season but he hasn’t seen a temporary elevation … until now. Calling up Riley was a no-brainer with Rodney McLeod and Marcus Epps as the only two full-time safeties on the roster. Avonte Maddox and Andre Chachere both have some safety experience but it’s limited. K’Von Wallace is still on injured reserve; he wasn’t activated in time to play on Sunday. In addition to being the third safety, Riley will be counted on to play special teams.

RICHARD RODGERS

Dallas Goedert will be TE1. Dick Rod will either be TE2 or TE3 and Jack Stoll will be the other one. Calling up Rodgers provides more tight end depth and gives the Eagles an emergency long snapper in the event Rick Lovato gets further banged up. Lovato was limited in practice all week with a hamstring issue.
