The Bengals’ final pick of the 2021 draft class will not play this year.

The Cincinnati Bengals have lost rookie defensive end Wyatt Hubert for the entire 2021 season.

On Monday, head coach Zac Taylor announced that Hubert suffered a season-ending torn pectoral muscle.

Hubert, the Bengals’ final pick in the 2021 NFL Draft (235th overall), finished his college career at Kansas State with 20 sacks, 94 tackles and 33 tackles for loss in 34 games. That included 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and 27 tackles in 10 games during the 2020 season.

Following what was his redshirt junior season, Hubert opted to enter the draft, despite not having a high level of stock. He was widely projected as a late Day 3/priority free agent, though several services had a draftable grade on him.

Hubert had a real shot to make the Bengals’ 53-man roster with defensive end being a bit thin behind starters Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson. Hopefully, he’s able to make a full recovery and compete for a roster spot in 2022.
