Updates on Philadelphia’s injuries.

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their first official injury report on Wednesday in advance of their Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. It’s the first injury report of the season! And, unlike last year at this time, the team seems … mostly healthy?! No players on the 53-man roster sat out of practice entirely.

Four players were limited participants: Brandon Brooks, Landon Dickerson, Rodney McLeod, and Davion Taylor.

Brooks is an unexpected inclusion. He got banged up early in training camp and missed some time but returned before it ended. One would hope he didn’t suffer a setback. Perhaps the Eagles are just being extra cautious with the 32-year-old given how it’s early in the week. Given Brooks’ extensive injury history, though, this is certainly something to monitor.

Dickerson spent all of training camp on the non-football injury list before being activated to the roster ahead of the cut down to 53 players. He’s likely still ramping up to get back in football shape. The Eagles might want to play it cautious with Dickerson and keep him inactive early on. Even if he is active, it feels like Nate Herbig would be the top interior backup in the short-term while Dickerson gets up to speed.

McLeod spent all of training camp on the physically unable to perform list being activated to the roster ahead of the cut down to 53 players. Like Dickerson, he’s probably still in the process of ramping up. But he might actually play in Week 1? It’s unclear. Darius Slay indicated that McLeod might not be ready for the season opener but apparently he mistakenly thought that the veteran safety was still on PUP. If McLeod can’t play, we could see K’Von Wallace or Marcus Epps start in his stead next to Anthony Harris.

Taylor missed the majority of training camp due to a couple different injuries. He’s ramping back up. The Eagles are carrying six other linebackers on their roster (plus one on the practice squad) so it’s not like they need to rush him back. It’s unclear what role Taylor will have when healthy. He was basically LB1 early on in camp but he missed a lot of valuable time. Besides, Eric Wilson and Alex Singleton seem to be cemented as the top duo. Taylor could at least play on special teams, though.
