The Jacksonville Jaguars used a right of first refusal tender to retain offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen, according to a source.

Van Lanen, 25, was acquired by the Jaguars in exchange for a seventh-round pick in a trade with the Green Bay Packers just before the start of the 2022 season. He’s been active for 25 games with Jacksonville, but has played just 71 offensive snaps with the team.

Most of those snaps came in two 2023 games when he was called into action in Week 3 against the Houston Texans and Week 15 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In both cases, Van Lanen stepped into the lineup at right tackle due to injuries suffered by rookie Anton Harrison.

While Van Lanen is still allowed to negotiate with teams in free agency, the Jaguars have the right to match any offers he receives. If Van Lanen plays on the tender in 2024, he will make $2.985 million.

In 50 pass blocking snaps during the 2023 season, Van Lanen was credited by PFF with allowing one quarterback hit and zero sacks.
