The final accounting of bumps and bruises

The final injury reports for the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns for their Week 4 matchup at U.S. Bank Stadium have officially been released. Not a lot of players ruled out for Sunday’s contest, but there could be some interesting decisions on both sides leading up to kickoff. Let’s take a look at both reports, starting with the visiting team.

We mentioned Newsome, who might be the Browns’ best corner already, being out of this one early in the week, so that’s no surprise. The three starting offensive linemen listed for the Browns are all at least questionable for this one, with tackle Jack Conklin not even being given an injury designation. Tretter and Wills were both limited in practice on Friday and are listed as questionable. The only other player declared out for the Browns is Hubbard, who is Conklin’s backup at right tackle.

And now, on to the home team.

Yes, the injury report looks pretty long and scary for the Vikings, but Smith-Marsette is the only player that has been declared out. Dalvin Cook said earlier today that, barring a setback, he’ll be out there on Sunday, though it stands to reason that he might cede more of his carries to Alexander Mattison because a) Mattison is coming off of a great game and b) they need to keep Cook relatively fresh.

Nobody knows if Barr is going to play or not. Until I actually see him out on the field, I’m just going to assume that he’s going to be out. Possibly not having Pierce is a scary proposition against what might be the league’s best 1-2 running back combination, so hopefully he’ll be able to go. Christian Darrisaw is likely going to be active for the first time in his NFL career, but the team will stick with Rashod Hill at left tackle for now. That might be for the best. . .honestly, I’d expect Darrisaw to take over as the starter after the bye week just to make sure his conditioning is up to snuff, barring an injury to Hill in the meantime.

That’s a look at the final injury reports for the Vikings and Browns going into Sunday’s matchup, folks. We’ll have more on this one as we get closer to kickoff.
