Cowboys news: Despite mistakes and officiating, Dallas leaves Foxborough with a win

Dallas wins a wild overtime game, Dak Prescott suffers a calf injury, Trevon Diggs ties the NFL record for most consecutive games with an interception, and more.

The Cowboys are now 5-1 after winning a game that saw its fair share of miscues and missed calls.

The Dallas Cowboys found themselves in a knock-down, drag-out dogfight in the northeast on Sunday, but somehow survived. A 35-yard pass from the arm of Dak Prescott landed in the wide-open arms of CeeDee Lamb for an overtime score and a 35-29 victory.

Entering the game on a four-game winning streak, things got off on the wrong foot. A failed fourth-down conversion in their own territory led to a quick New England score and then red-zone issues flummoxed their offense two times later in the half. Thanks to gelling defensive effort, Dallas was able to escape two quick New England scores to only trail 14-10 at the half.

Things opened up in the second half, with Dallas taking the lead, losing it, regaining it on yet another Trevon Diggs Pick-6 interception, then giving it back on the next play. Diggs was in coverage when Kendrick Bourne pulled a double-move that safety Damontae Kazee badly misplayed, giving up an immediate 75-yard response to give New England a three-point lead.

Big conversions led to a late tying field goal and overtime, and when the defense came through with a stop, Dak Prescott did what franchise quarterbacks do. He led Dallas on an 80-yard drive, the final 35 on a beautiful pass to a wide-open CeeDee Lamb for the winning score. Dallas somehow escaped the Patriots’ lair in Foxboro with a 35-29 victory.

Take a deep breath, everything will be okay.

Following the game, it was revealed that Prescott suffered a right calf strain and would be evaluated further on Monday. Prescott was spotted wearing a protective boot on his right leg during his postgame press conference, saying that he “came down funny” after making the throw to Lamb, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News.

Even though he is wearing a boot on his right leg, Prescott expressed confidence that he will be fine.

Luckily for the Cowboys, they will not need to worry about Prescott’s status for next week, since the team is on a bye. That is a definite benefit for Dallas, especially if the strain is determined to be minor following the evaluation. Still, Cowboys fans are going to be nervous until they read an update on Prescott’s right calf.

Five plays that shaped the Cowboys’ week six victory that you might have forgotten about.

Holding wipes out TD; sack next play – With the Patriots already holding a 14-7 lead, Mac Jones threw a touchdown pass over the middle in the second quarter. But a holding call on the Patriots negated the score. On the next play, Randy Gregory absolutely nailed Jones, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Chauncey Golston. The Cowboys took the turnover and got a field goal, changing the score from a 21-7 deficit to just 14-10.

Zeke first down catch mid-third – Pinned back inside their own 5-yard line after a penalty, Prescott calmly stood in the pocket and found Ezekiel Elliott over the middle for a big gain, getting a first down and breathing room. That play opened the door for a 91-yard drive that ended with a touchdown pass to Lamb, giving the Cowboys their first lead of the day.

With 149 yards and two touchdowns, CeeDee Lamb is one Dallas player who shined during week six.

Had there not been several plays called back, including the previously mentioned 44-yarder to Cedrick Wilson, Dak Prescott would have gone over 500 yards. As it stood, he still played out of his mind with 445 yards on 36-of-51 passing with three touchdowns.

Prescott did have an interception on a pass where he tried to fit the ball in with far too many defenders around Wilson, but outside of that throw, he was on fire. He played with great poise and confidence and didn’t let the continued issues on the offensive line keep him from securing a fifth win for his team.

As good as Dak was with his arm, he was equally impressive with his mobility. He finished with just 10 yards but it was more his ability to move in the pocket and buy time that stood out.

Dallas Cowboys Stud: CeeDee Lamb, Wide Receiver

CeeDee Lamb had the best game of his young career. The second-year wideout had 11 passes thrown his way and he pulled in nine of them for 149 yards with two touchdowns — and each of those was impressive.

The first score was a one-yarder where he caught the ball at the back end of the goal line. There was no room for error as Lamb hauled it in and drug his toes to barely stay in bounds. That gave Dallas their first lead of the evening, 17-14.

Then in overtime, Lamb did it again. On a seven-play, 80-yard drive, Lamb had three receptions for 56 yards. That included a walk-off touchdown as he took a Prescott pass 35-yards to the end zone to win the game for Dallas.

People are starting to buy into this team being a legitimate contender in the NFC, including Dak Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys are riding high heading into their bye week after their fifth straight win on Sunday, a thrilling 35-29 overtime victory over the New England Patriots.

After throwing the game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s told reporters the confidence level for Dallas is rising.

Prescott threw for 445 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday. Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs also had a pick-six for his seventh interception and second touchdown of the season.

As long as Dallas continues its stellar play on both sides of the ball, the Cowboys should be in contention for an appearance in Super Bowl LVI.

Diggs ties the NFL record for most consecutive games with an interception. His seventh of the year was returned for a touchdown during the final three minutes of regulation.

It started off fairly quiet for the second-year cornerback, and his interception streak appeared to be coming to an end after at least one interception in the first five games. But then, with just over two minutes left in the game, Patriots quarterback Mac Jones tested Diggs, his former Alabama teammate.

Kendrick Bourne tipped the pass, and Diggs returned it 42 yards for a touchdown with 2:27 left.

“They were running it all game,” Diggs said. “I seen it on film. The double slant, to the front side, and I just read it and made a play on the bill. He tipped it and it just fell in my hands.”

It was his second touchdown this season.

“There was no stopping me. As soon as I got it, I was like I have to go score,” Diggs said.

Diggs’ six-game interception streak to start a season ties the NFL record. He joins Tom Landry (1951), Barry Wilburn (1987) and Brian Russell (2003) as the only players to accomplish the feat.

Diggs has seven interceptions. Hall of Famer Rod Woodson (1993) is the only other player in the modern era to have seven interceptions through six games.

“I’m just taking it all in, trying to make the best play and be better than I was last week,” Diggs said.
