A New York Jets legend raved about the Haason Reddick trade

Count one of the New York Jets’ all-time greatest defensive players as a fan of their latest move.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Hall-of-Famer Joe Klecko endorsed the Jets’ trade for Haason Reddick.

“He’s a player-and-a-half. I don’t care how good they were on defense last year; it wasn’t good enough. Reddick makes them a much better football team,” said Klecko.

“The opposite of a great quarterback is having great guys to put the quarterback down. That’s how the NFL works. This is a big deal. I love it.”

Klecko, who went to Temple and was a vital New York Sack Exchange member, is not wrong in his assessment of the team’s latest move.

With the trade, New York is adding a versatile and highly productive edge rusher to an already talented defense. Since being deployed as a primary edge rusher in 2020, the Temple product is fourth in the NFL with 50.5 sacks. He has utilized his great speed off the edge to cause havoc for the Cardinals, Panthers, and Eagles.

Where Reddick differs from Bryce Huff is his run defense and positional versatility. Reddick is a respectable run defender, highlighted by his 19 tackles for loss in the run game since 2020, tied for 11th among edge defenders over that span. He also has experience dropping into coverage due to his background as an inside linebacker, as he has played at least 40 coverage snaps in every year of his career.

Reddick gives the Jets a productive and versatile player in a win-now window. In that regard, Klecko is correct in saying that Reddick is exactly the type of player the team needs.
